A PROPER END FOR YOUR E-WASTE

October 14 is International E-Waste Day, marked this year with the slogan: “Join the e-waste hunt – retrieve, recycle, and revive.”

E-waste is any redundant or broken item with a plug, cable, or battery. Nearly every home and office has at least one, if not several, lurking in a dark cupboard or drawer!

It’s shocking to know that in 2022, 62 billion kilograms of e-waste were generated globally. To put this figure in perspective, it equals 1.55 million trucks filled with e-waste lined up along the Earth’s equator.

We rely heavily on devices and machines in our daily lives, but we don’t always do the right thing when it comes to their disposal. E-waste that ends up in landfill causes enormous damage to the environment and represents a lost opportunity for resource recovery, as many e-waste items contain valuable metals that can be extracted and repurposed.

International E-Waste Day is a movement very close to our hearts at Enviroserve, where we run the world’s largest integrated e-waste recycling facility. Our state-of-the-art technology has capacity to process up 40,000 tonnes of e-waste each year and can handle all types of electrical and electronic items.

On this important day, we encourage you to dig out those old items and dispose of them properly, with a zero-to-landfill mindset. You will be contributing to sustainability and a circular economy and playing your part in helping the planet breathe.
